Komrad: Mao's Hunan and Sichuan Kitchen - Chinese Craze

When I was younger, I was only limited to fastfood choices. See, I wasn't adventurous in trying new dishes at all. But as I age, I discovered Asian and Italian foods that pretty much agreed to my taste buds. Now, my Chinese food craving has extended to something more upbeat when I went to Komrad: Mao's Hunan and Sichuan Kitchen.

Entering Komrad, you will be greeted by unique artworks and photographs of Mao Tse Tung, the Chinese communist revolutionary. But aside from Chairman Mao's famous pictures, even the tables are marked with the communism sign. Since it means freedom, I believe that Komrad would make you free your tastebuds to try their delectable dishes that are smartly priced, backed with a homey ambiance

Since we are there to try their menu, let us proceed to the festivities, shall we

We first feasted on the Sichuan Pata Tim (Php535) See the chili bits? I was frightened at first because I thought it was too spicy, and I didn't want to start with something my tastebuds wouldn't agree on. But then at the first bite, I believe I found my match!

Next, we had the Hunan Steamed Fish Head (Php455). One thing you should know about me is how I love eating fish. If the Pata Tim was my match, this one is my soulmate. :) I love how the flavor of the sauce makes the fish tender. I am definitely up for a second serving, or third.

For the vegetable treat, we had the Sauteed Kenya Beans with Minced Pork and Tofu (Php198). This is a giveaway winner for me because what I love most about Chinese food is their tofu. This is perfect for those on a diet.

I must confess, I am not a fan of eggplants. During the meal, my friend Krystle said that the Sichuan Fried Eggplant and Pork Strips (Php198) was the first eggplant she's ever had in her life. And you wouldn't even know that your'e already devouring one, because the sauce makes up for the whole dish.

Aside from the spicy dishes, Komrad also offers dimsums like Xiao Long Bao (Php164), Steamed Hunan Cumin Siomai (Php125), Komrad Steamed Siomai (Php120), Steamed Spareribs (Php125) and Shanghai Pork Dumplings (Php125). Guess who won in my category? Yup, the XLB! But of course, you have to dip it in the special sauce to savor the soup.

Mind you, not all Komrad's dishes are spicy. The Braised Pork Belly with Preserved Vegetables (Php288) is one of the sweet dishes that I can have, any day. And with the caramel topping, I feel like having the main course and dessert in one dish.

In Chinese Food, no menu is ever complete without the Birthday Noodles (Php225). I just adore how flavorful this is and there are lots of ingredients that you can definitely munch on.

In every restaurant I go to, there's always a certain dish that I'm imagining applauds with. And you know, that Kung Pao Chicken (Php198) is definitely one of the many dishes that I applauded on. The chicken is rich, the toppings are sweet, and they are served really well, you wouldn't have to take a second look. You just had to eat them all!

For our dessert, we had the Mango Sago. Its like mango puree with the sago. And its not so sweet, and served cold. Capping up the night with this one ends a perfectly delicious menu.

Komrad: Mao's Hunan and Sichuan Kitchen is located at the 2nd Floor of the Il Terrazzo Mall in Tomas Morato and also at Eastwood Mall. After the sumptuous dinner, my tummy is happy that I tasted another authentic chinese feast. I can't wait to go back and try out what remains of their menu.

Happy eating, guys!
