Staying safe and stress free from COVID-19

For days, Luzon has been declared in enhanced community quarantine and the Philippines in State of Calamity, as cases of COVID-19 keeps on rising. As of writing, there are already 202 total number of cases in the country and this pandemic is giving most of us a lot of anxiety. For now, all we can contribute to prevent spreading the virus is by keeping healthy and follow the guidelines of the Department of Health and the Government.

How to we equip ourselves in preventing the corona virus?

1. Wash Your Hands Frequently

This is probably the number one rule given by the World Health Organization and our Department of Health. If alcohol only has 70% solution, using soap and water thoroughly kills germs and viruses that may infect you.

2. Social Distancing

I know, this might be a problem for some, especially during our daily commute. When the LRT and MRT was still operational, they asked the commuters to distance themselves at least one meter apart from each other. This would definitely prevent you from getting the virus, especially if the commuters you are with is already sick with cough or colds. Now that we are in enhanced community quarantine, you should still distance yourself and stay at home at least to contain yourself from the virus.

3. Maintain proper respiratory hygiene

If you are coughing or sneezing, make sure to cover your mouth and nose with your elbow or a tissue to stop spreading viruses and not to infect those who have a weak immune system.

4. Go Cashless

Last March 13, Kenya confirmed their first corona virus case and more was discovered after a couple of days. In a traditional country

like ours, using paper money is still a practice for their daily transactions. But as the virus has quickly escalated, their President Uhuru Kenyatta urged people to go for cashless transactions. He said, "In order to avoid the risk of transmission through physical handling of money, we encourage the use of cashless transactions such as mobile money and credit cards." We can very much relate to their country as most of us has this difficulty adapting to innovation and technology.

In our household, we had to stock our food cabinet since we had to stay and work from home. We then went to Puregold and I remembered that they have this payment facility with GCash Scan to Pay (STP) via Barcode. This barcode scanning payment scheme is integrated into Puregold’s point of sale (POS) to streamline payment system and facilitate faster transactions. Not only it is made cashless, we do not have to wait for change or take out my wallet and count for bills. This also paved way to maintain social distancing, thus, preventing from getting the virus.

Pay for your transactions with GCash and earn rewards and rebates. It's so easy to get your own account. All you have to do is download the GCash app from the App Store or from Google Play for free and sign up for an account. You can also check out their official Facebook Page at www.facebook.com/gcashofficial

As I always say to family and friends, this too, shall pass. We may be stressing with this pandemic now, but with guidance and precautions, we can fight COVID-19 and other illnesses that may come our way. For now, always stay healthy and protect yourself from getting sick.
