Changing traditions

While most of us value traditions and do not conform to the “out with the old, in with the new,” some prefer convenience over the conventional. As someone who juggles a lot of things on my plate, waiting in long lines is not my thing. And that is why being “digital” is more popular to me than being traditional.

Just two months ago, I had to line up in one of the major banks to pay for our hotel booking in Boracay. When you do the over-the-counter bank transactions, you have to get a queuing number, fill up the deposit/fund transfer slip, wait in line and when called, hand them your money. And since my transaction will be sent to a provincial account, they still had to charge me Php50.00 as transfer fee. Not only is this a big hassle, I had to give up my lunch hour because their branch closes at 4:30 p.m., while I get off work at 5:30 p.m.

Now, I don’t usually rant this much, but I feel as if I can do more with my precious time. And that is why GCash is so important in my life now. Just last night, I had to send money to my friend’s bank account, and I did not have to visit the nearest bank to me. All I had to do are these five steps using my phone and my GCash:

1.       Open the GCash App
2.       Click Send Money
3.       Click Send to Bank
4.       Select Bank Partner (Choose from           their 39 partner banks)
5.       Fill up the necessary details (amount, account name, account Number) then click Send Money.

Not only does GCash waive the transaction fee, I also have the convenience to do this in the comforts of my home and after banking hours. Most importantly,  crediting to account is real-time, so if my friend needs the money now, we don’t have to wait for the next banking day.

So if you’re going to ask me, convenience really matters.  As for traditions, they come and go—now my tradition is using GCash for my daily transactions.
