The long wait is over for KathNiel fans like myself because She's Dating the Gangster shows on all cinemas this July 16. I can't ever deny that I'm one of their biggest fans, and seeing them again on the big screen is a must!
She's Dating the Gangster is the screen adaptation of the best-selling Filipino novel by Bianca Bernardino. Sold over 70,000 copies in paperback and 600,000 readership on Wattpad, Star Cinema thought that this is best shown on screen with the Teen King and Queen in mind right from the very start. During the presscon, Bianca said that she never ever dreamt of having her novel on the big screen, so she's very much pressured on how will people react once they see the movie. She also said that if the movie surpasses its book version, she'd still be very happy about it, because the heart of the story is still based on the film.
Director Cathy Garcia-Molina only has one choice of love team for the movie. Since she has seen the KathNiel love team from Got to Believe, she knows that Kathryn and Daniel will best portray Athena and Kenji. She also said that the two have grown such good actors and can pull off films with substance.
She's Dating the Gangster is a contemporary Filipino love story for all ages. The story revolves around the intertwined lives of a set of young star-crossed lovers, Kenji and Athena, with a major unfinished business to settle and an unlikely couple, Kenneth and Kelay, who unexpectedly finds love in their individual quests to set things right for the people closest to their hearts.
What excites me is how TIMING will finally be right for Athena and Kenji, Kenneth and Kelay. Daniel Padilla says his favorite scenes are at Albay, Bicol, because they got to climb atop the majestic Mayon Volcano.
The film also stars Khalil Ramos, Sofia Andres, Pamu Pamorada, Marco Gumabao, John Uy, Alex Diaz, Igi Boy Flores and Yana Asistio. Also, watch out for one of the golden loveteams, Richard Gomez and Dawn Zulueta.
She's Dating the Gangster is part of Star Cinema's 20th Anniversary Celebration.
