Gastro Chef Opens its New Shop at Chef Gusto's Pizza, Pasta & More

Gastro Chef, the number one companion of chefs in the Philippines welcomes 2013 with a new shop located at Chef Gusto's Pizza, Pasta and more in Legazpi Village, Makati. I was privileged to be invited during its media launch because I got to know more about their products and how essential it is to use wood in your kitchen.

Gastro Chef is owned by the Philippine and Scandinavian Design, Filtra Inc. or also known as Filtra Group. They have established a name for 20 years in the wood business and their inspiration for their products are Scandinavian, with a Filipino touch. Mainly because the wood that they use came from the Philippines.

Their high quality kitchen brand comes from authentic wood species. During its launch, we have learned that they use mahogany, rosewood and acacia - and they are all from the Philippines. Gastro Chef also meets international standards for a locally made brand. Instead of manufacturing it overseas, they are proud that their products are of Filipino craftsmanship.

The Gastro Chef brand is positioned as high-end and caters to wholesalers, retail, as well as the professional markets, both locally and for export. These products are widely used as corporate gifts and are distributed in gift shops as well as lifestyle retail outlets. The product line is being exported to a growing number of countries as well. With its durable quality, you would also be surprised that their price range are within one's budget. Since they support upcoming chefs, you get value for money as you are getting high grade items.

Here are the reasons why you should switch to wood instead of using plastic:

- Wood has natural bacteria-killing properties, thus making them less likely to contaminate food than plastic or acrylic cuttingboards.
- Unlike plastic, wood is porous allowing bacteria to retreat into the grain where it is trapped and dies.
- Wooden cutting boards such as End-grain, has self-healing properties. During the chopping motion, the end-grain surface moves as your knife glides through. The knife slices between wood fibers (as opposed to cutting into them) therefore, the blade edges last longer and leave fewer slice marks on the surface.
- While you should certainly throw away an old plastic cutting board that has knife cuts all over it, wooden cutting boards season nicely. In due time or when needed, fine sandpaper can be used to restore its surface.
-Wood is a natural sustainable resource.

Gastro Chef is also the first trading company to receive Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody Certification in the Philippines. That only means that the several wood species offered by Filtra are guaranteed to be coming from certified and responsibly managed forestlands, which are monitored throughout the supply chain, from the forest to the client.

Chef Panos of the Chef Gusto's Pizza, Pasta and more did not only share a space with Gastro Chef, but also highly recommends the product. He said that he was looking for the perfect knives and discovered Gastro Chef. From that day on, he only sought for their kitchenwares that he invited the company to put up their newest branch at the left wing of the restaurant.
